EXCURSIONS
The coast, Karst and sea offer a range of opportunities for walks, picnics and relaxation. Above Portorose there is a botanical garden and the Forma viva sculpture gallery. Rare birds live on the salt pans of Secovlje and along the coast are the picturesque Mediterranean towns of Piran, Izola and Koper. In the surrounding villages (including Hrastovlje, Korte, Kostabona, Osp and Groznjan), you will be offered karst prosciutto, home-made wine and renown Istrian foods, you can also see the traditional presses for olive oil.
In Tartini square in Piran, there is a maritime museum and a theatre and gallery, and in nearby streets there are aquariums. Manzioli square is in the old part of Izola, and in Koper you can see the beautiful Tito square, built in the Venetian style. Longer trips can include the kocjan caves, the horse stables at Lipica, Postojna caves or Trieste or Venice.
